This made me laugh! Brian Ellis-Quipu album review on Uber Rock by Nev Brooks. Ok he slags off the album, but this has to be the worst writing ever! The way it's written, it makes the reviewer seem very unprofessional and stupid. Anyway, thank you Uber Rock for the review, it's still nice of you to do one.

SESSION REVIEW by Mark Whitby:
There was a time when the word ‘shoegazing’ possessed little scope for being anything other than a derogatory term. This was almost certainly unfair, one of myriad examples of something preposterously classed as a ‘scene’ or, even a ‘movement’ when clearly it was nothing of the sort. From this point I could write something about lazy music journalism but I’m not going to. I’d rather write about how a term once deemed so pejorative has been majestically reclaimed, and about
93MillionMilesFromTheSun, very possibly the finest of the many bands unashamedly to label themselves as such, and even more specifically the amazing session they’ve done for my Dandelion Radio show.
In fact I’ll spend most of my time doing that, stopping only to note that, this year, Serena-Maneesh have made one of the albums of the year and followed this up with a fine 7” single with Fucked Up that I also feature in my October show. 93MillionMilesFromTheSun have already contributed much to the revitalisation of the shoegazer, their self-titled album last year on Parallax Sounds followed this year by a free five-track EP on the same label. So there was little doubt about their brilliance. But when the tracks for the session arrived, seven of them, clad in a sleeve with a picture of John Peel on one side, they ratcheted their status up several more notches.
I’m featuring five of the tracks in the show. It’s a session that coasts, glides, builds; while the tracks vary in length, you always feel they could go on longer, perhaps in a continuous loop forever. It’s a seductive process with, if you’ll allow, the final two tracks an explosive multiple orgasm to bring things to an epic close: ‘Waiting There’, a version of a track from that free EP, is one of the most spectacular things I’ve heard all year, followed closely by the eight minute plus ‘Sonic Assault’.
I always knew this band was good, but the session has raised them to one of the most powerful musical entities on the planet. This is a band that can alter your perceptions of what can still be done with such well-used musical tools, of how ignoring labels and simply doing what you do can still be the most productive of all musical pathways. I suppose one of the problems with the ‘shoegazing’ moniker at that time is that bands so labelled were essentially using building blocks provided by the Cocteau Twins, Jesus and Mary Chain and My Bloody Valentine. Too add anything interesting to that substantial legacy proved beyond most of them, and inevitably – however good they were – they were viewed as pale imitations of something more substantial.. Perhaps now sufficient time has elapsed for a new generation to emerge, and on this evidence at their head will be 93MillionMilesFromTheSun.

01) Nice Nice - Extra Wow. (Warp)
‘Extra Wow’, their first album for Warp, is also the first that’s likely to make a dent on the mainstream. A good thing too, as this is pretty damn impressive. There are echoes of other experimental noise-rock types: Hawkwind and Animal Collective / Gang Gang Dance, plus label-mates Battles. But there’s more going on here than just reverb and distortion. ‘On And On’ cruises along a propulsive motorik beat, ‘Make It Gold’ builds into an intense shamanic drone, and there’s a curious dubby skank to the aptly named ‘Big Bounce’.
Architects of knackering, baffling noise, their sound is a multi-layered, many-stranded trip across far-flung corners of the globe and back again via late-night noisecore, early morning electronica and heavy handed acid-disco hideaways.
Opening up with Set and Setting, the album starts as it means to go on, with spiralling sitar-esque sounds sitting alongside squalling feedback freakouts, thundering drums and widdly spaceship bleeps. The result is a glorious, mind-melding mess that is as oddly comforting as it is confusing and never anything less than intense. Segueing seamlessly into 2009 single release One Hit, which boasts Gregorian punk overtones in its mangled clatter, it’s not exactly what you’d call easy listening. But beneath it all there’s an impressive musicality that’s difficult to ignore.Three years in the making, Extra Wow suffered what you might call an epic setback when, halfway into recording, Nice Nice’s computer crashed, causing them to lose most of the music they’d already laid down. Undeterred, they started over and, from the ashes, crafted a genre-defying phoenix which touches on everything from swirling 1960s psych and garage shakedowns (Everything Falling Apart).
It's complex, yes, but it’s well worth working Extra Wow out.More than just the sum of its influences, ‘Extra Wow’ lives up to its title. There's not a bad track on this album, that's why it's the best album of 2010. Very very nice nice!!

02) Teen Daze - Four More Years EP.
01) Solar Bears - Inner Sunshine EP. (Planet Mu)
Congratualtions to Solar Bears! Planet Mu's "Inner Sunshine EP" blew me away on first listen. The music is a mix of the rich colours of hip hop inflected analogue electronica with touches of the shimmering neon synths of late 70’s early 80’s Kosmiche music.
It’s warm and organic with a languid, pastoral grace that intertwines acoustic and rock instruments with electronics. Their tracks twist through prog rock’s structures and sounds, occasionally making sharp turns into noisier, tense post rock territory.
Check the way ‘Trans Waterfall’ gently builds from its synth lead melody through passages of tense guitar building into gentle acoustic guitars and flutes. Or the way ‘Photo Negative Living’ rolls along dreamily on a 4/4 beat before the slicing guitar riffs crash in. This is gorgeous stuff.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
2muchachos review by Kristel Jax of the canadian Stylus magazine beating the likes of Emeralds and Max Richter:
Search "formanta" on Google, and the first link leads to "Mueseum of Soviet sythesizers". Folktronica trio 2muchachos' formanta (not Formanta), arelic from 1970s Russia, opens the album by creeping, slow and warm, over crisp fields recordings.
2muchachos bring to mind the soft glitch-pop of Morr music artists Isan and Mum or Slowdive's dreamiest shoegaze-but Cherepovets, Russia's Vladimir, Dmitry, and Alexandra have used their remote location to craft a unique and haunting sound. When war-like drums break out on track 3, "Adelaida", a melancholy aggression meets the warm romanticism of the formanta; War and Peace in song.
The gentle rustling and scratching sounds and samples throughout formanta keep 2muchachos close and distant all at once. Beats arrive from gentle noise and fade out again. The music matches the simple, haunting videos of nature the band has posted one by one this year as they release new songs.
Alexandra's soothing vocals on "Vremja Tepla" and "Raindear?" sends shivers on every listen, but it's the half way mark "Northern sea Ghosts", when Alexandra and a male voice appear in ghostly harmony, that is the most moving.
In 2muchachos fable-like biography, their mandate seems tobe "warmth and kindness": a strange goal, but one they achieve with formanta. On the albums cover is a simple but striking image of a flower made of yarn in sharp focus, suiting a sound where magic is in the details, but feeling is inescapable; 2muchachos iare equally bewitching on P.A speakers or headphones late at night.

Sjofn - Secret album gets very nice review and a rating of 16/20 on "With Music In Mind" blog!
The Icelandic Sjofn Andersdottir bears the same name as the Nordic goddess of love and passion. A nice omen for this artist who is now lives in the Chugach Mountains of Alaska, USA. Signed on the english independent label Pa...rallax Sounds, she release her debut album Secret. This is an ideal setting to capture the soft light and melancholic melodies composed by the musician skilled at the guitar and banjo. Combining a certain coolness and warmth of Nordic music Americana stripped in this case, Sjofn arrives with her band of musicians Mountain Mission also comprised of Paul Montserrat (clarinet, whistle, etc..) Leif Ericson (guitar, mandolin, violin, etc..), the disc producer Jesse Gunn (electric guitar, string arrangements), and guest star bassist Christina Brown to embark in their world lo-fi folk clever and captivating.
Along the 17 tracks (does not however exceed 48 minutes duration) that make up Secret she wanders and leaves the listener with delight from beginning to end on a sea of pearls highlighted by the siren voice of disenchanted Icelandic, with instruments, slightly reverberated to give it a dreamy and very attractive feel. Both experimental and accessible, this organic, minimalist folk album, which releases a lot of quiet, intimate and delicate songs, invites us to curl up in a quilt to enjoy this little moment of comfort, making us temporarily forget the difficulties of outside world with an almost disconcerting ease. Magical. A debut album of a goddess / mermaid Haunting Icelandic charm. Intriguing. Final Mark: 16/20

2MUCHACHOS - FORMANTA reviewed by: RabbitInYourHeadlights (Indie Rock Mag) http://www.indierockmag.com/article12258.html
If both instrumentalists and Russian producers behind this improbable pseudonym claiming the aesthetic influence of a certain Kid A on the water cold and instrumental seemingly abstract but actually incredibly evocative and full of humanity, this first opus, but rather on the side of the great outdoors whipped by the wind of the first albums múm emotions frozen in ice (the voice of their third female half on helping Northern Sea Ghosts particular) or eddies of intangible Seefeel early (cf. Dreaming Girl) That we seek to ancestry Formanta, which mimics the cover by its strangely organic textures and graphics spleen that of Summer Make Good, Unjustly underrated masterpiece of Icelandic previously cited.
Certainly, it is indeed a diptych of unpublished signed Radiohead that could refer Polyethylene Tree if this was the "h" missing, and we thought why not other B-sides from the period OK Computer as Melatonin or Meeting In The Aisle Listening to these retro-futuristic keyboards, in this case dated Soviet synthesizers of the 70 that give the album its name. Phagocytosis but timidly arrhythmias a downtempo IDM, the oscillations in the electro random, hypnotism a minimalist krautrock, the guitars of shoegaze immaterial in weightlessness (Vremja Tepla, Whose dreamlike flights seem to dream of a romantic M83) Or simply the sounds of nature surrounding the music developed by Vladimir, Dmitry and Alexandra is positioned more in the continuity of the work of ISAN, Of Ulrich Schnauss or first album Bronnt Industries Kapital passages in his most cinematic (Adelaida) Or haunted (Symerki).
Journey through the seasons as the trio advance on Gogoyoko where the album suggests in its entirety, or confrontation of limbo of loneliness longing for understanding and attention of others, Formanta inevitably leads us, according to the fades of its current and instrumental moods of its authors, the most penetrating of the spleen (the stunning Aqualung Has Broken) Hope to the most disarming (Raindear?), Seeking to calm a wave on which the album fail to float and eventually sink to the sound of wind and tide.

2muchachos - Formanta
For: Múm, Aarktica, Ambient Works-era Aphex Twin
Byline: The TOME's biggest crush of 2010 hits heavy with a full-length. All expectations aside, this is one of the year's strongest releases. Debut or otherwise.
We at the TOME, you see... we're lovers. We like music. Lots of it. Sure there's lots of stuff we don't like, but we don't really feel like it's worth it (for anyone—us, artist, reader) to sit here, nerdily in front of our computer screens while we pretend to work our day jobs, ranting and raving about something you probably won't even bother to check to see if we were "right" or not. Our hope, in approaching the music blogging realm in this fashion, is that just maybe you'll trust us, if even once. Trust us that the music you find on Tome to the Weather Machine is at least worth a spin. So when we post multiple times about an artist, it should be an indication that said artist is worth at least one of these listens. This time, I implore—NAY—I beg of you... give this Cherepovets, Russia-based ambient/electroni-folk trio a chance if you haven'talready. We've posted twice about 2muchachos humble, sun-streaked naturalism already this year, and when Parallax Sounds graciously sent over the final mix of Formanta... it was just a no-brainer. 2muchachos, while confirming and affirming them, has also completely obliterated my expecations. Formanta is, without question, one of 2010's finest full-length offerings from any man, woman, child, band, ghost, alien, wolf, dog, bird or tree.
Once again drawing on the obvious influence of Icelandic slow-core, Formanta shifts the band's overall aesthetic downward. Everything on the album, despite their characteristic rising arpeggios in the synth lines that once symbolized light and warmth for the band, has 2muchachos preparing for winter. April brought us Prespring and with it unbridled optimism and comfortable warmth. July brought us Summer Vacation and with that, those sweltering coma-induced lazies. And now, it's colder, the days are shorter, we're bundling up... it's a bit sad, a bit nostalgic, but ultimately, it's time to get to work: Fall. Back to school.
The album collects music the band has been working on for over two years, and Formanta definitely feels the benefit of the careful consideration that goes hand-in-hand with this kind of time. Everything on Formanta feels much more fully realized. Tones are molded, sculpted and panned across channels, and there's simply a lot more of them, the band mixing and matching individual sounds with precision and grace in a way that still comes out hopelessly simple. There's a broader sense of progression here with concern to volume in particular, but also in terms of space, timing, and timbre, all of these elements brilliantly executed to make songs like "Vremja Tepla" swell to heights that will take your breath away. Like climbing a giant cliff just to jump off; it's exhausting, exhilarating... and it might just kill you. Previously-available tracks like "Dreaming Girl" (which first appears as an acoustic version on Prespring) come to form beautiful full-muchacho arrangements with chiming bells and tip-toeing electronic rhythms that sneak around synths, like the dreaming girl is playing hide-and-go-seek with herself.
This is the perfect record to watch the sun's prominence fade with daylight-savings just around the corner. Grab your coat, your hat, your mittens, your sled, catch the Northern Lights if you can or at least a full moon, and dream your way through March. 2muchachos is there to hold your hand through it... yeah, it's going to be a tough winter, but it'll be beautiful and fun, too... just you wait.

Sjofn review on finnish blog "One Chord"
Sjofn: Secret (Parallax Sounds, 2010)
Sjofn is a folk singer-songwriter from Alaska and Secret is her debut album. I had some doubts when I first received the album, but sometimes you better hit the play button before starting to form an opinion. Based on the cover I didn’t expect this to be my kind of stuff, but in the end it was definitely my kind of stuff. Minimalistic and simple folk music, but with very thoughtful arrangements and well crafted songs. Sometimes Sjofn’s music reminds me of Rose Melberg’s solo material. Maybe if Rose moved to Alaska and started playing folk songs on her front porch it would sound something like this. 17 songs is way too big one time dose though and Secret would get a higher amount of hearts, if I could cut it down in two and form an imaginary album out of the better half of the songs. Now there’s a danger that the real jewels just gets buried in the crowd.

2muchachos - Formanta gets an awesome review on PennyBlackMusic:
Outstanding combination of dubstep and classical music from Russian experimental trio 2muchachos
Reviewed By: Maarten Schiethart
From Cherepovets, on the northern shore of the manmade Rybinsk Lake, and a Russian town equally remote from St. Petersburg as from Moscow, comes symphonic trio 2muchachos. Talented with a well-developed sense for melody and for song structure, 2muchachos combine glitch rhythms and classic compositional structures while performing on acoustic instruments. Soundscapes which 2muchachos recorded at bustling urban areas build the layers for a tense mixture of pastoral and metropolitan touches on 'Formanta'.
'Northern Sea Ghosts' is the first highlight on the album. Elegant modern composing at first and then changing to heavenly pop music, it ends like a haunting waltz. 'Dreaming Girl' best shows the intercourse of sounds. 2muchachos had onboard geigentellers and like a 21st Century riddim section, and with great joy, their sounds tingle and tangle. 'Raindear?' begets a very special meaning as the sounds from a smouldering fire seem to get smothered by rain.
'Formanta' makes for a grand adventure and for a modest moment in music history. Vladimir, Dmitriy and Alexandra have done themselves proud.

2Muchachos - Formanta album gets 9/10 on DyingForBadMusic.
Genre: Folktronica, Electronic, Ambient
Label: Parallax
If you like well crafted organic electronica
2muchachos from russia seem to be a good companion this year. They appear in the springtime with their wonderful Prespring EP, sent a nice summer holiday card with the Summer Vacation EP and now here it is, their full length album Formanta on Parallax.
I think this is the perfect end summer album. Relaxing, a bit melancholic and warm like the last sunbeams in this die away season.
They advertise this album with the warmth of their Formanta synth, an old russian analogue synth they used for the album.
I like the idea, even if this all could be done with todays software or stuff. But beside these technical blah - this album seems to have a lot soul a spirit. Something that will give you a good feeling like hugging a friend
My favorite is Symerki so far. A wonderful track driven by a analogue drumbox beat, a bit guitar, nice stereo panning and a slightly spooky athmosphere. 9/10

2muchachos-Formanta gets Best Album Of The Week in Resident.
http://www.resident-music.com/2010/08/29/resident-new-releases-30th-august-2010/
The 2muchachos album beat Oneohtrix Point Never and the new Kompakt compilation, which is high praise indeed and it beat some other well known artists like The Cribs...
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
It's a special day for the russian trio 2muchachos! Release Date: 30th August 2010, the 2muchachos - Formanta album is now released and available worldwide to buy on download or lancing pack cd. Available through Parallax Sounds, Cargo Records, HMV Records, Norman Records, Juno, Apple itunes, Amazon, and many more places. There is also a special edition homemade digipack cd (limited to 50 copies only!)
The album "Formanta" comes from the latin formatio (formation) and is also the name of the 1970's soviet vintage synthesizer. Formanta album has elements of electronica, folktronica, shoegaze and ambient.
Each track is carefully crafted by gradually washing you gently with their lush deep, warm beautiful sounds that almost sound abit similar to Ulrich Schnauss, Isan, Cocteau Twins and Paavaharju.
Russian trio 2muchachos find themselves in methodic ambience, the ticking clock of time measures these compositions into structured forms, bringing the band's sound closer to the realm of Icelandic slow core like "Sigur Ros" or, when factoring in the much more subdued, delicate touch which the band employs and it's mastery of pastoral bliss would be more suited to Icelandic band "mum".
Apparently, Radiohead's-Kid A and Portishead's-Third albums have also been a major inspiration on this album. All the tracks on this album are designed to take you on a journey through the seasons. Each track flows into the next track, like a medley.
There is some sort of background noise between the tracks which suggests the album could of actually been created outside, giving it that natural organic, field sound recording vibe. There are lots of ambient hissing noises, crackles, unidentifiable percussion, droning organs, hushed echoing vocals and some really awesome gitchy IDM

PARALLAX SOUNDS RECORDS BECOMES FIRST LABEL TO GO COMPLETELY ECO AND ENVIRONMENTAL FRIENDLY WITH A STRICT NO PLASTIC POLICY ON CD CASES!
So why the change Parallax Sounds?
It just made good sense to me and this is the way forward. Plastic looks ugly and cheap plus they can crack easily and are obviously not eco friendly.
We will gradually be replacing the plastic jewel case with Eco friendly card wallets, Digipacks and Lancing Packs style packaging. These styles look alot nicer and more attractive to the eye. I would rather have a digipack cd than a jewel case anyday! I will also be gradually replacing the archive release catalogue with the same eco friendly cases.
I am also currently looking into manufacturing Hemp Digipack cd case.
I think that would be such a cool idea.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
A double CD of blistering psychedelic classics.
Every single track is a stunning scorcher. 32 tracks from world-class acts. This is the very best of the best. Absolutely beautiful packaging and presentation.
Guaranteed to blow your mind for generations to come.
Featuring: 93MillionMiles From The Sun, Caribou, Brian Jonestown Massacre, The Engineers and many more! Available to buy from Amazon, Spotify ect..

93 Million Miles From The Sun
As stereotypical visions of people and places go, the good folks of Doncaster aren't exactly at the top of the list when thoughts turn to embracing new, experimental music. Indeed, having spent the occasional stag night in DN1 and its dens of iniquity also known as night clubs, the nearest anyone could expect to come to encountering new music would be the "Indie half hour" in Seventh Heaven, where Oasis, The Enemy and Ocean Colour Scene are the so-called alternative. Thank heavens for small mercies then, as 93 Million Miles From The Sun not only manage to dampen stereotypes, but their self-produced, self-titled debut long player could (whisper it) just be one of 2009's most exquisite offerings on the album front. Combining layered, textured guitars over an array of effects and choral vocals, 93 Million Miles From The Sun is one of those records that, while evoking memories of the likes of Slowdive in their heyday or even a more sonically enhanced Maps, stands tall and proud in its own right due to the dazzling range of variation across its thirteen tracks. Another key element of 93 Million Miles From The Sun's extensive make-up is that not only do they express a desire to take their sonic experimentation one step further, but they also never lose sight of the fact that beneath all the reverb and delay lay actual songs that would sound just as affecting stripped down. 93 Million Miles From The Sun are:- Nick Mainline (guitars/effects/vocals), Rob Hogg (bass/effects) and Jack Straker (drums/effects). The album 93 Million Miles From The Sun is available direct from Parallax Sounds.

BAGPIPE WHISKEY IN SESSION FOR GLOBAL SOUNDTRACKS! Presented by: Tom Ravenscroft (John Peel's son)
After playing 'Horsebite' by Bagpipe Whiskey in GS018 we received a deluge of emails demanding more. Ever eager to please we tracked down Bagpipe Whiskey, also known as Ben, and he suggested there would be no better time to record him than Halloween and no spookier place to record than an old cinema in Fishguard, South West Wales. So that's what we did.Tuesday, February 10th, 2009

Indie label distribution company Pinnacle Entertainment has been declared bankrupt, with the firm letting go over 94 people (December 3 2008). The company is the latest casualty of the credit crunch, and puts the entire future of indie labels into question, as the company was responsible for releasing records from over 400 indie labels. Among the hundreds of influential record labels that were distributed by Pinnacle are Rough Trade (home of The Strokes), One Little Indian, Drag City and Fierce Panda.
So, what with the credit crunch and lots of people pirating by downloading music from the internet all the time, things are going to get worst by the sounds of things but Parallax Sounds will continue providing good alternative music. Parallax Sounds does not care about the credit crunch because its not about the money or how many sells, its about the music and getting people into the music. Even if we only sell 1 copy of an album, Parallax Sounds will still continue to help keep the alternative independent music alive. Thats serious dedication for you!

PARALLAX SOUNDS music net label launch and compilation release!!!
PARALLAX SOUNDS MUSIC NET LABEL LAUNCH!!!!!! Ladies and Gentlemen, Fellow Music Artists, Young and Old people from all over the world, and Music Fans. Welcome to Parallax Sounds music net label, home to music artists of a alternative nature from all over the world!!! In the beginning there was the "Big Bang", and now recently the "BIG BANG MACHINE". Scientists and Physicists created their own "BIG BANG" and then "PARALLAX SOUNDS" was born!!! (Joke!) Parallax Sounds will be officially launching the music label on "Wednesday 1st October 2008". To celebrate the launch of the label, there will be the very first Parallax Sounds release which will be the Parallax Sounds music label compilation album titled "Parallax Sounds Volume 1" by various artists from the label and will be available as a FREE mp3 download on the Parallax Sounds website and myspace. There will also be a limited edition CD-R version (100 copies only) for a small price of £2 plus £1 postage and packaging in the U.K and £2 postage and packaging to the rest of the world. Parallax Sounds is an independent, alternative, D.I.Y, music net label created and co-founded by myself (Anthony Merrill aka Maelstrom). Yes, it's only me thats managing the label!!! The purpose of the label is to open the ears, hearts, minds and souls of people out there with good, positive unheard and unsigned alternative music and to create recognition for music artists on the label to a wider audience and to develop my passion and John Peel's (R.I.P) passion for music further. I will be arranging and planning some press coverage and some radio sessions in the near future and will let you know more nearer the time about that. Please keep in mind that this label is at experimental, developing stage and is only a small label but if we keep being positive and help each other along the way, who knows? We might develop into something more bigger and become the new Warp Records or something or maybe i can be the next Tony Wilson (R.I.P) of Factory Records! LOL!! Parallax Sounds looks to have a good future ahead and more great music artists are destined to join, with a couple of already famous music artists joining up in 2009 (Hopefully), just to give the music label some support and abit of a boost! I personally want to say a big "THANK YOU!" to all the great music artists on my label for helping to make this happen and for believing in me! I also want to thank all the people out there and the music fans for their support, and wonderful comments and messages that i recieve daily and for people who take time to listen to the music. Without YOU...this label would be nothing! As quoted by Krister Linder, "The artists are in no way exclusively bound to Parallax Sounds. Neither can all of their music be said to represent Parallax Sounds. But these souls are in some way contributing to the Parallax Sounds project and furthering its spirit." We are are all equal and we are all good friends. Let's keep up the good work by being positive to one another and to help each other succeed in our dreams and happiness in life! Parallax Sounds hasn't even started yet and the label as already become quite popular. Exciting times, surprises and bigger things are yet to come in the future. So.. on the 1st of October why not join me with a drink to celebrate the beginning of something special. Have fun! Lot's of Unconditional Love, and Peace! Anthony Merrill (Co-founder of Parallax Sounds and Maelstrom).
