Lights:
With a flicker of an 8mm reel, Foreign Cinema has created an audio visual soundtrack with influences cross pollinating elements of shoegaze, triphop, and dub. The band’s noir sound balances light and dark, with ethereal warmth and interjected groove to create a romantically dark world guided by interpretive lyrics about the human condition.
Camera:
Founded in 2008, the symbiotic core is comprised of Astral frontman/ guitarist, Dave Han of San Francisco, bass courtesy of Natty D from Goiania, Brazil, and keyboards Brandon C.
Action:
The band’s debut EP features 5 originals and will be released through UK indie record label, Parallax Sounds.
Foreign Cinema creates lush sounding music inspired by artists and bands like Cocteau Twins, My Bloody Valentine, The Cure, Brian Eno, Portishead, Ulrich Schnauss, Slowdive, Steven Severin, Echo and the Bunnymen, Sisters of Mercy ect. Among their shoegazing and trip hop elements, they have a darker side to their music aswell. Parallax Sounds are proud to have such a beautiful talented band on the label!
"Like a breath of Arctic air, Foreign Cinema sound a bit like New Order. The songs are regulated, cold, and emotionally challenging. The Ep cover presents a female with headphones, and the back, a male with a small movie camera. These photographs are in black and white, and that only complements the starkness of the Ep. Not one note is extra or out of place on Non-synchronous Sound. As the title implies, it's a slip from synchronicity, where everything matches up with life; the starkness gives an otherworldly quality to the Ep. There's a Depeche Mode cover. It fits in so well one might not even notice it was a cover. Overall, the album has a deliberate, plodding feel - but not in the sense that it will drag you down. Rather, Foreign Cinema wants every beat to count, most notably on "Lovers and Killers," the standout track on this Ep." - Even in the Future Nothing Works, July 2009
Voted "BAND OF THE MONTH" by the Deli SF, May 2009!!
